6 Ways Cosmetic Dentistry Can Improve Your Smile
Do you like to show your teeth when you smile for a photo? Many adults are self-conscious about the way their smile looks due to staining, yellowing, or crooked teeth. Your smile says a lot about you, and it’s important that you feel comfortable and confident with the teeth you have.
Fortunately, if you want to improve your smile, our Grand Rapids cosmetic dentists can help. Here are 6 different ways that cosmetic dentistry can transform your teeth into the smile of your dreams.
1. Dental Implants
Are you missing a tooth? A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, typically made of titanium, placed in your jaw to later anchor a crown. Through a process known as osseointegration, the dental implant fuses to the jawbone This allows it to provide stability and prevent further jawbone deterioration so you can avoid the likelihood of facial collapse.
2. Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are wafer-thin porcelain shells we’re able to bond to the fronts of your teeth. Our cosmetic dentists may recommend porcelain veneers if your front teeth are chipped, discolored, stained, or have other small issues that affect the appearance of your smile.
First, our dentist will need to remove some of your tooth’s enamel so the veneers will fit flush against the rest of your teeth. Then, we’ll bond the veneers to the front of your teeth, instantly creating a straight, even smile.
3. Dental Bonding
During the dental bonding procedure, our dentists will apply a special tooth-colored material to the surface of your tooth. Our cosmetic dentists may recommend dental bonding if you have teeth that are slightly chipped, misshapen, or even discolored. Teeth bonding can also be done to close slight gaps between front teeth.
The dental bonding procedure is similar to the veneers procedure, except that less enamel will need to be removed. Our dentist will apply a tooth-colored resin to your teeth and shape it to suit your mouth.
4. Dental Bridges
Dental bridges “bridge” the gap in your smile left by a missing tooth. A dental bridge is composed of a false tooth anchored in place by dental crowns on both immediately adjacent teeth.
A tooth bridge may also be placed between dental implants or a healthy tooth and a dental implant. By filling the empty space, you’ll be able to provide support to healthy adjacent teeth so they don’t shift or even eventually fall out.
5. Dental Crowns
A dental crown covers the entire visible portion of your tooth above the gum line. Our dentists may recommend a crown to restore the strength and appearance of a fragile tooth.
For example, we may use a crown to restore a tooth with a cavity that’s too big to be fixed by a simple filling. In the world of cosmetic dentistry, dental crowns are often used to fix the appearance of teeth that are broken or misshapen.
