Invisalign vs. Braces

What is the difference between Invisalign and traditional braces? There are pros and cons to each orthodontic procedure.

In general, users experience:

  • Less oral discomfort and mouth sores, due to lack of sharp wires
  • Less risk of cavities or plaque buildup, as aligners can be removed for eating and cleaning
  • A less noticeable appearance, since Invisalign trays are clear and fit snugly over teeth

For adults looking to straighten their teeth in an unobtrusive way, Invisalign is definitely an option to consider.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign is a system of orthodontics that uses clear, removable aligner trays to gradually shift your teeth into a new position. At your consultation, we will create a 3D model of your teeth. This model will show you what your teeth will look like after the treatment is complete.

If you decide that this is right for you, the 3D model will be sent off so your aligners can be prepared. In just a few short weeks, you can return to our office to pick up your first set of aligners.

You will need to wear your aligners 20 to 22 hours per day in order to see results. This means you can remove them while you eat, for cleaning, or even for an important moment like a presentation or a speech.

Every few weeks you will switch to a new set of aligners, each one moving your teeth closer to their final position. Our dentists will keep track of your progress through check-ins every six to eight weeks.
